Activity Description

Enjoy an unforgettable Full Day African Safari, departing from Cape Town on a 2.5 hour drive, through the beautiful Hex River mountains and valleys to a malaria free private game reserve. Get up close and personal with the famous Big Five as well as well as Giraffe, Wildebeest, Zebra and other antelope species. Take in the stunning scenery, wildlife, and some of the Cape’s most unusual plants and birdlife all in one day! The elephants and lions on the reserve have been successfully rescued from relocated as a result of agricultural development and human habitation. There is also the Cheetah Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre, which was established in 2001 and is home to several cheetahs.

Hex River Valley and Klein Karoo

As you embark on this scenic journey from Cape Town, you’ll wind your way through the majestic Du Toitskloof Mountains, passing through the impressive 3.9 km long Huguenot Tunnel. Emerging on the other side, you’ll be treated to a breathtaking panorama of towering peaks and lush valleys, stretching as far as the eye can see. A leisurely drive past the picturesque Breedekloof and Hexriver wine regions en route to the Klein Karoo with its breathtaking, wide open spaces. The Swartberg (Black Mountain) to the north and the Langeberg and Outeniqua mountain chains to the south, encircle the Aquila Game Reserve, which is situated in the Klein Karoo.

Aquila Game Reserve

On arrival at the reserve you will be welcomed with a chilled drink. On confirming your arrival at reception, a buffet lunch will follow. At around 13.15 hours, you will board an open air vehicle for a 2 – 3 hour traditional safari game drive through the 10000 hectare reserve. The reserve is protected by majestic mountains and valleys which makes it ideal for game viewing. Led by experienced rangers, they will ensure that you have the best opportunity to view Africa’s iconic Big Five as well as Giraffe, Hippo, Black and Blue Wildebeest, Zebra, Ostriches, Springbok, Gemsbok, Jackal and a variety of antelope. The reserve also has a natural wetland and is home to 172 bird species and several breeding pairs of the rare and endangered Black Eagle.
